The defending champion of the Nigeria Professional Football League this evening swam out of the relegation water as they defeated the league leader, Plateau United inside The Cathedral in Enugu.
The match was a rescheduled game in the NPFL. Daniel Etor put the coal city boys ahead in the 22nd minute of play and the goal was enough to earned the defending champion, the maximum 3 points at stake.
With this victory, Enugu Rangers have moved to the 16th position on the log with 23 points from 19 games, while the defeat did not do anything to the states of Plateau United on the log.
In another rescheduled game, Rivers United compounded Remo Stars woes by handing them a slim 1-0 defeat. Bernard Ovoke scored the only goal for the home in the 41st minute.
While the defeated condemned Remo Stars to the bottom of the log, Rivers United moves to the 13 position with 24 points.
Both continental representatives could still move further up the table by the time they play their last outstanding fixture after this weekend State FA Cup finals.
The second round of the league has been scheduled to kick off May 21st, 2017.
