Plateau United Dumped Out of CAF Confederation Cup

After losing out of the Group stage of the CAF Champions League courtesy of defeat by the Etohu du sahel of Tunisia, the Nigeria Professional Football League defending champion, Plateau United has finally been knocked out of the Continental competition.

The reigning NPFL champions were dumped out of the CAF Confederation Cup following their 4-0 defeat away to USM Alger of Algeria on Tuesday night.

Plateau United had won the first leg 2-1 inside the Soccer Temple Lagos but Tuesday’s 4-0 defeat meant they were edged out on a 5-2 aggregate scoreline.

USM Alger scored two goals in each half of Tuesday’s second leg game to book their place in the group phase of the CAF Confederation Cup.

With this lost, Enyimba International is the sole likely qualifier as they go into the second leg against Bidvest Wits on Wednesday with an advantage of scoring an away goal as the first leg ended 1-1.

MFM International lost their home game inside the Soccer Temple against Djoliba AC and they will need miracle to survive another defeat in Bamako, Mali.

The last Nigerian flag bearers, Akwa United, have 2-0 deficit from their first leg away clash against Sudanese club Al Ittihad. Going by Akwa’s home form in the previous Continental games, one could say the team is as goos as out of the tournament.
