Ruth Okafor Wins NWPL Referee Of The Year Award
Ruth Okafor has won the Best Referee Award for the Nigeria Women Professional League for the 2018/2019 Football season.
In a glamorous award ceremony organized to end the season, the “Nurse Referee” emerged the winner ahead of two other equally fantastic Referees, Serah Godwin and the last season winner, Mfon Friday.
The former professional player herself joined the Referee Association in 2006 and attained the prestigious Grade One status in 2011.
Awards winning isn’t new to Ruth, apart from winning the Referee of the week severally in the past, she also won “Life-Saving Award” for her bravery and quick reaction in saving the life of Edo Queens Captain, Jennifer Osawaru, during a league game in Ilorin.
Before she became a football referee in 2011, Okafor had an illustrious career as a footballer where she played for clubs like Royal Babes FC, FC Robo Queens, Abuja Babes FC, Tap FC, Gombe Queen FC and CATS (Community Action For Sports).
