Princess Meranda Resigns with Dignity, Paving the Way for Stability in Lagos Assembly
In her poignant valedictory speech, Princess Mojisola Meranda took a moment to reflect on the personal sacrifices she made amid the ongoing leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly. “I wish to let every one of you know that I have made a personal sacrifice in the effort to resolve the straining leadership issues affecting this esteemed House,” she said, acknowledging the weight of the decision she was about to announce.
Princess Meranda further expressed deep gratitude for the role her family had played and continued to play in supporting democratic values, good governance, and the overall welfare of the people. “I will never depart from the values of honor, dignity, integrity, and service, values personified by my late father,” she emphasized, highlighting the strong foundation her family’s legacy had laid in her leadership journey.
She went on to restate the carefully considered decision she had made regarding her resignation, which she had earlier communicated in a public statement. “It is with a heavy heart that I resign from my position as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, effective March 3, 2025,” she said. “This decision was not made lightly. When I accepted the role on January 13, 2025, I did so with a deep sense of responsibility. However, the ongoing crisis has reached a point where it now threatens the very democracy this House represents.”
