On Monday, a new chapter in the development of Nigerian football was written as the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), officially inaugurated the first batch of participants for the prestigious CAF B-License Coaching Course at the NFF-FIFA Technical Centre, located inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
This marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing transformation of Nigerian football, one that is long overdue. “Today is a day of immense joy for me,” Gusau shared with pride, his voice reflecting the significance of the occasion. The NFF President spoke passionately about the importance of progress, recognizing that this initiative has been years in the making. “To witness it come to life is incredibly fulfilling,” he added, acknowledging the hard work of all those involved. He also welcomed coaches from other countries, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the course, which seeks to elevate not just Nigerian football but the wider African football community.
Gusau’s excitement was palpable as he commended the NFF Technical Department, led by Coach Augustine Eguavoen, for the tireless effort that went into making the course a reality. His words resonated with the spirit of unity and dedication that underpins this endeavor. “I urge all participants to stay focused and make the most of this opportunity,” Gusau advised, stressing the importance of commitment. He also hinted at future plans, revealing that by the end of the year, the NFF intends to launch a CAF A-License program—a testament to the ambition of the NFF’s leadership and their drive to elevate the standard of coaching in Nigeria.
Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the NFF General Secretary, also shared his thoughts, emphasizing the long-term benefits of the program. “This initiative is not just about certification, but about transforming the coaching landscape in Nigeria’s football leagues,” he explained. “Without elite coaches, our teams will continue to face challenges on the international stage. This is why the B-License is crucial—it opens the door to international competitions, ensuring that our coaches are not just qualified but capable of applying modern, effective strategies.”
The CAF B-License coaching course, a critical component of the NFF’s broader vision to uplift the standard of coaching in Nigerian football, will span four months. It is designed to provide coaches with a comprehensive and structured learning experience across various modules, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in a rapidly evolving football landscape. This inaugural batch includes 25 dedicated participants, all eager to enhance their coaching expertise and make a meaningful impact on the game in Nigeria.
This course is not just about training coaches; it’s about shaping the future of Nigerian football. It is a step toward a brighter, more competitive future and a testament to the NFF’s commitment to bringing world-class football to Nigeria.
