Nigeria's U17 Coach Olowookere Grateful After 4-0 Flamingos Triumph Over Algeria

Nigeria’s U17 Women’s Head Coach Praises Fans and God After Commanding First-Leg Win, Eyes Final Step Toward Morocco 2025

Following Nigeria’s emphatic 4-0 win over Algeria in the first leg of their final round qualifier for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, Coach Bankole Olowookere has expressed heartfelt gratitude—to God, to the team, and to Nigerians who turned up in Ikenne to rally behind the Flamingos.

It was a dominant display at the Remo Stars Stadium, where the Flamingos sent a strong message of intent, brushing aside Algeria with a clinical performance. While fans rejoiced over the team’s flair, control, and finishing, Coach Olowookere took a moment to reflect on what the win means and the journey ahead.

“I’m grateful to God for the Flamingos’ 4-0 win against Algeria today in Ikenne. I appreciate the support from Nigerians who came out in their large numbers to cheer the Flamingos to victory,” he posted via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The coach, who famously guided the Flamingos to a historic bronze medal at the 2022 edition in India, understands better than most that celebration must be balanced with caution. While the four-goal advantage gives Nigeria a solid lead, qualification for Morocco 2025 isn’t sealed just yet.

“It’s a good win, no doubt,” Olowookere has noted in previous interviews, “but football is played over two legs. We’ve done well here, but we must remain focused and disciplined and finish strong in Algiers.”

Indeed, with the second leg looming in Algeria, the Flamingos know they must not get carried away. The job isn’t finished until the final whistle blows in North Africa. The players will need to replicate the same hunger, precision, and teamwork that earned them victory in Ikenne.

Support from the home fans was a huge boost, and Olowookere made sure to acknowledge that. The atmosphere inside Remo Stars Stadium was electric—thanks to the hundreds of fans, families, and young girls in the stands who saw a dream unfolding on the pitch.

As Nigeria moves closer to another U17 Women’s World Cup appearance, the nation will be watching. This team has already shown promise, but their ambition is bigger. They’re not just looking to qualify—they’re aiming for history in Morocco.
