Remo Stars Football Club etched their name into Nigeria’s football history books on Sunday, becoming 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions following a resounding 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The title marks a historic first NPFL crown for the Sky Blue Stars and underlines the rapid progress of the club, which was only founded in 2004 by entrepreneur and football investor Kunle Soname.

Champions in Style: Comeback Win Over Ikorodu City
Despite a shaky start and conceding early in the 15th minute, Remo Stars refused to panic. They found their rhythm and delivered a commanding performance.
- Sikiru Alimi equalized in the 37th minute
- Ibrahim Shuaib gave them the lead in the 41st
- Babatunde Bello, celebrating his birthday, extended the lead in the 48th

With the NPFL trophy officially presented by Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, the stadium erupted in celebration as fans witnessed the crowning of their team as champions on home soil.
71 Points and Total Dominance
Even before the win over Ikorodu City, Remo Stars had secured the title and was awaiting being crowned. Sunday’s triumph was a cherry on top, bringing their total points to 71 with one game remaining.
The victory not only crowned them champions but also showcased their consistency, depth, and resilience throughout the campaign. From top defensive displays to goal-scoring flair, the Sky Blue Stars were the standout side of the 2024/2025 NPFL season.
A New Chapter for Southwest Football
Remo Stars are now the first Southwest club to win the Nigerian league title since Julius Berger in 1991. Their journey from grassroots football to the continental stage is a landmark for privately owned clubs in Nigeria, breaking barriers and rewriting the norms of football development in the country.
The achievement also shines a light on Beyond Limit FC, another club under Kunle Soname’s ownership, who won the Nigeria National League (NNL) in the previous season — proving that the Soname model of youth development and investment works.
CAF Champions League Next
With the league title in hand, Remo Stars have officially qualified to represent Nigeria in the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League — a major step for the club and a new challenge on the continental front.
As their women’s team also competes in the NWFL Super 6, the club dreams of a historic men’s and women’s league double, making Remo Stars a symbol of excellence in Nigerian football.
