Nigerian female athletes continue to make their mark on the U.S. collegiate athletics scene, putting in powerful performances at the SEC and Big 12 Outdoor Championships this weekend.
Tima Godbless Commands the SEC 200m
All eyes were on Tima Godbless, and she did not disappoint. The Nigerian sprint queen breezed through her 200m heat at the SEC Outdoor Championships, clocking a swift 22.62s (+0.9). She dominated her race, finishing well ahead of her closest challenger, Sharmelle Holmes, who came second in 22.95s.

This performance not only cements Tima’s place in the final but also underscores her status as one of the top sprint prospects emerging from Africa. She’s proving that consistency and raw speed can take you far in the ultra-competitive NCAA environment.
Olajide Makes a Statement in Her Big 12 Debut
Over in Kansas, it was a dream debut for Olayinka Olajide, who qualified for the women’s 200m final at her first-ever Big 12 Outdoor Championships. Olajide ran a composed race to finish second in her heat with 23.29s (0.9), booking her place in the final behind Kya Epps, who set a new personal best of 22.99s.
It’s a huge step forward for the young Nigerian sprinter, who has steadily built momentum this season and is now delivering when it matters most.

Precious Nzeakor Dips Under 23s for the First Time
Still at the SEC Championships, Precious Nzeakor showed just how far she has come this season. She finished third in her 200m heat, clocking 22.85s (+2.5)—her first-ever sub-23s time, albeit in wind-aided conditions. The race was won by Kenondra Davis in 22.58s, with Camryn Dickson second in 22.68s.
While not legal for record purposes due to the tailwind, Nzeakor’s time reflects growing confidence and potential as she races among elite collegiate athletes.
Faith Okwose Faces Tough Heat
Faith Okwose, also competing in Tima Godbless’s 200m heat, placed 6th with a time of 23.31s. Though not enough to reach the finals, Okwose remains a strong contender for future meets with room to improve.
Jimoh Books 800m Final Spot
Middle-distance standout Ramat Jimoh secured a place in the women’s 800m final at the SEC Championships in Lexington. She ran a solid race, finishing second in her semifinal with a time of 2:04.80. The race was won by Michaela Rose, who clocked 2:03.62.
Jimoh was just 0.20s off her personal best set last month and continues to show resilience and steady progression in her event.
