The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has moved quickly to address concerns over a controversial communication that appeared to single out individual players following the national team’s recent struggles.
NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, described the incident as unacceptable and emphasized that both the Federation and the Nigerian government remain firmly supportive of the Super Eagles.

“I saw it just like you saw it, and nobody in the headquarters was happy with that release. NFF did not direct it. NFF has respect for all the players, and it was a collective responsibility,” Sanusi said.
He stressed that football victories and defeats are never the responsibility of one player but of the entire team.
“When we win, it is never about one person, and when we lose, no individual should be blamed. It was wrong to single out anyone, and nobody within the Federation was happy about that situation.”
Sanusi reassured Nigerians that both the NFF and the National Sports Commission, as well as the federal government, recognize the efforts of the players.

“We may not be happy with the results, but we are satisfied with the dedication of the players. They gave their very best. Even the federal government delegation at the game joined us in encouraging the team to stay focused on the bigger challenges ahead.”
Moving Forward
The clarification comes at a critical moment as the Super Eagles prepare for upcoming international fixtures. With World Cup qualifiers and continental tournaments on the horizon, Sanusi’s words aim to restore trust and ensure that the team remains united and motivated.

For the NFF, the message is clear: victories and setbacks belong to the team, and no player should carry the blame alone.
