Falconets Set for Senegal Showdown in 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

Nigeria’s Falconets will lock horns with Senegal in a decisive third-round clash as the road to Chile 2026 heats up

Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have set their sights on another FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup appearance as they prepare to face Senegal in the third round of the African qualifiers. The eagerly anticipated fixture is scheduled for February 2026 and promises to be one of the standout ties of the campaign.

The Falconets, coached by Christopher Musa Adukwu, breezed past Rwanda in the second round with a commanding 5–0 aggregate victory. After securing a narrow 1–0 win in Kigali thanks to Olabiyi’s composed 70th-minute strike, the Nigerian side returned home to Ibadan and wrapped up the tie in style. Goals from Oscar, Adeshina, Akekoromwei, and Afolabi sealed a resounding 4–0 second-leg victory, underlining the team’s attacking depth and resilience.

Senegal, however, will pose a serious test. The West Africans crushed Algeria with a 6–0 aggregate scoreline. A comfortable 2–0 home win in Thiès was followed by a ruthless 4–0 triumph in Blida. Goals from Sarr, Badio, Pène, Sagna, and an own goal from Rekibi showcased Senegal’s growing firepower and their readiness to challenge Africa’s traditional powerhouses.

This third-round clash will be more than just a qualifier; it will be a battle of pedigree and ambition. Nigeria, two-time FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finalists, will look to lean on their rich history, squad depth, and continental dominance. Senegal, buoyed by their momentum, will aim to prove that they are no pushovers by upsetting the giants and keeping their World Cup dream alive.

Across the continent, other heavyweight fixtures add to the intrigue of the qualifiers. Elsewhere, Kenya faces Tanzania, Côte d’Ivoire battles DR Congo, Egypt takes on Benin, and Guinea-Bissau meets Malawi.

With only four slots available for African teams at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Chile, the third round represents a critical step for all the nations involved. For the Falconets, the road to Chile continues, but Senegal’s stern challenge must first be conquered.
