Why Tacha Brought Her Guinness World Record Attempt Home to Nigeria

The reality TV star turned entrepreneur chose Nigeria over London to showcase African creativity and elevate the nation’s beauty industry on the global stage.

Reality TV star and entrepreneur Tacha Akide has once again proven her passion for spotlighting Nigerian excellence. The former Big Brother Naija housemate recently began her Guinness World Record attempt for the most makeovers done in 24 hours, choosing to host the challenge right here in Nigeria instead of the United Kingdom.

The event, which is part of the Tacha Beauty Festival, represents more than just a personal milestone. It is a powerful statement about Nigeria’s creative potential and the incredible talent within its beauty industry.

In a recent chat with Egungun, Tacha revealed that the initial plan was to hold the record-breaking event in London with sponsorship from global beauty brand NYX. However, after reflecting on what the project truly meant to her, she made a bold decision to bring it home.

“The plan was London. We already had a brand that wanted to sponsor us — NYX,” Tacha said. “But I said London is not that country that will give me the vibe I want. My people are here. It always makes sense to carry your country along. I’m putting the Nigerian beauty industry on a freaking global map.”

Tacha revealed that the Guinness World Record attempt had been two years in the making, describing it as one of her most ambitious projects yet. The event, which began on Saturday night, aims for an astonishing 150 makeovers in 24 hours — a test of skill, endurance, and artistry.

By Sunday morning, she had already completed 115 makeovers within 12 hours, surpassing the previous world record of 113 makeovers completed in 24 hours.

Despite power disruptions and fatigue, the reality TV star stayed determined, completing each makeover in just minutes while keeping her energy high.

The Tacha Beauty Festival is not only a record attempt but also a celebration of beauty, culture, and Nigerian resilience. With this achievement, Tacha continues to inspire millions of young Africans to believe that global recognition can start right from home.
