President Bola Tinubu has praised the Super Eagles after their emphatic 4–0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo, commending Victor Osimhen’s brilliance and the team’s renewed World Cup qualification hopes.

President Bola Tinubu congratulated the Super Eagles following their emphatic 4–0 victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Uyo, a result that rekindled Nigeria’s dream of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The President, in a statement released by his spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday, commended the players and coaching staff for their determination and team spirit. He noted that the win not only restored confidence among fans but also symbolized the fighting spirit that defines Nigerian football.

A rejuvenated Super Eagles side, led by a sensational performance from Victor Osimhen, delivered one of their most dominant displays in recent years. The Napoli striker netted a memorable hat-trick, inspiring the team to a commanding victory that secured a place in the CAF playoffs for the 2026 World Cup.

President Tinubu praised the team for reigniting hope among millions of Nigerians who have been eager to see the national team reclaim its place among the world’s best.

Despite their convincing performance, Nigeria narrowly missed out on an automatic qualification ticket, as South Africa topped Group C with a 3–0 victory over Rwanda in Johannesburg.

The Super Eagles will now advance to the CAF playoffs, joining the three best second-placed teams across the nine qualifying groups. The playoffs will feature a semifinal and final round, with the eventual winner moving on to a FIFA intercontinental playoff that could earn Africa an additional World Cup slot.

The decisive second round of the CAF qualifying playoffs is scheduled to take place in Morocco from November 10 to 18, 2025.
