Bittersweet Truths and Tender Triumphs in Tunde Adeparusi’s A Throw of a Lemon
This poetry collection invites readers to reflect, feel, and find meaning in the sharp sweetness of living.

In a world constantly caught between chaos and calm, A Throw of a Lemon by Tunde Adeparusi arrives like a quiet but powerful wind—one that unsettles, stirs, and then settles with unexpected grace. This poetry collection is more than a book; it is a mirror, a balm, and a challenge, all delicately stitched together in verse.
Each poem in this mesmerizing collection delves deep into the complexities of the human condition. Adeparusi writes not to escape life’s contradictions, but to inhabit them fully. Like the fruit in the title—sharp, tart, and at times, sweet—the poems evoke moments that sting with truth but refresh with clarity.
Whether he’s reflecting on love that leaves us longing, grief that reshapes us, or identity that remains in motion, the poet navigates the spaces where stories begin and end—often without warning. The words are not ornamental; they are grounded in lived experiences, yet elevated by lyrical elegance.
Themes as Threads: Love, Loss, Resilience, Renewal
This collection does not just explore themes—it lives them. From the solitude of heartbreak to the solidarity of shared struggle, Adeparusi offers a poetic geography of the soul. Identity, perception, culture, and the inevitability of change are not just touched upon—they’re held, examined, and reimagined.
Each verse offers a conversation, an invitation to readers:
Come sit with this feeling. Let it speak. Let it teach you something about being alive.
The metaphors draw heavily on nature and everyday encounters. Rain becomes a reminder. Dust, a memory. Silence, a space where truth often whispers the loudest.

Ordinary Moments, Extraordinary Meanings
What truly sets A Throw of a Lemon apart is its ability to find resonance in the everyday. A walk, a glance, a passing thought—each is transformed into something eternal. There is no rush here. The poetry lingers, allowing the reader to feel each breath between the lines.
Rather than gloss over pain, Adeparusi embraces it with honesty. Yet within that pain lies persistence—a refusal to be defined by suffering. The poems often end where healing begins, pointing toward transformation, creative survival, and quiet resistance.
A Global Voice, A Personal Truth
Though deeply personal, this collection speaks across boundaries. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what you’ve been through—there is something in these pages that will feel achingly familiar. And that is perhaps Adeparusi’s greatest triumph: to speak one soul’s truth in a way that echoes within others.
For lovers of poetry that does more than decorate the page, A Throw of a Lemon offers solace and strength. It is a space for reflection, for confrontation, and ultimately for grace.
This book reminds us that even when life throws lemons, poetry—like spirit—can turn them into something unforgettable.
