Emmanuella Breaks Silence on Viral Proposal Drama at Lagos Wedding

After being branded “rude” and “ungrateful” for slapping her boyfriend during a surprise proposal at a friend’s wedding, Emmanuella finally shares her truth — and why she says she has no regrets.

When the video of a young woman slapping her boyfriend mid-proposal at a wedding surfaced online, it instantly set social media ablaze. The woman, later identified as Emmanuella, became the centre of one of the most talked-about viral moments in recent weeks.

Now, after days of speculation and backlash, she’s finally telling her side of the story.

In a video statement posted online, Emmanuella said she has been trending “for the wrong reasons” since the dramatic scene at her friend’s wedding. “I’ve been trending since yesterday, and people are calling me names. I don’t care about that, but I’ve been getting death threats, so I want to clear the air,” she said.

Emmanuella confirmed that she has no intention of apologizing to her ex-boyfriend, identified as Ben. “Am I supposed to apologise? Yes. But will I apologise? No. Ben deserved what he got,” she said firmly.

According to her, Ben had been pursuing her for months, even though she repeatedly made it clear that she wasn’t interested in a relationship. “He stays in Port Harcourt, and I live in Lagos. I told him I can’t do a long-distance relationship,” she explained.

So when Ben decided to make a grand romantic gesture at another couple’s wedding, she said she felt disrespected and cornered. “Why would he come and propose to me at someone else’s wedding? Does that make sense?” she asked.

In her words, the proposal was not an act of love but an attempt to embarrass her in public. “He wanted to disgrace himself, and I disgraced him. Now everyone is blaming me. He’s the one who brought it upon himself,” Emmanuella added.

She also accused Ben and his friends of fueling the online attacks against her. “Ben, can you and your boys—Bryan and Edafe—stop dragging me online? Look at my DMs; I’m getting death threats because of you people. If Bryan hadn’t posted that video, would I be receiving those messages? Ben, please, call your dogs and put them on a leash,” she pleaded.

The viral clip continues to stir heated debates online. While some social media users argue that Emmanuella overreacted, others believe Ben’s public proposal was inappropriate and insensitive.
